What is Atlantic Immigration Program?

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates from a Canadian institution who want to work and live in 1 of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces—New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador. The program helps employers hire qualified candidates for jobs they haven’t been able to fill locally.

The Atlantic Immigration pilot program was launched in 2017 as part of a joint initiative to stimulate economic growth in Canada’s Atlantic provinces by attracting skilled workers. The Atlantic provinces include New BrunswickNewfoundland and LabradorNova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. You must receive a job offer from a designated Atlantic employer in Canada to participate this program. To immigrate to Atlantic Canada through this program, you must be either

  • a recent graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada, or
  • a skilled worker

You can be living abroad or already be in Canada as a temporary resident.

The Atlantic Immigration Program has replaced the pilot. You can submit your permanent residence application to the new program starting March 6, 2022

To be eligible you must:

  1. 1.Have a qualifying work experience: should be at one of these National Occupational Classification (NOC)A, B, C and D.
  2. Meet language requirements
  3. Meet education requirements
  4. Show that you have enough money to support your self and family
  5. Must have a job offer from designated employer in Atlantic Immigration Program

Program Requirements

Atlantic International Graduate Program (AIGP)

  • Obtained a full-time student for at least 2 years program from a recognized  publicly funded institution in 1 of the 4 Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador). Education credential is not eligible in a study or training program where the study is English and French as second language in Canada; distance learning; scholarship or fellowship where applicants must return to their home country.
  • Lived in Atlantic provinces for at least 16 months within 24 months
  • Had a valid permit during their stays
  • Meet minimum language requirements 
  • Do not require any work experience

Atlantic High-Skilled Program (AHSP)

  • a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, or completed foreign credential and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an agency approved by IRCC. [The report must show the foreign education is equal to a completed Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.] and, the ECA must be less than five years old at the time of the application.
  • Meet minimum language requirements
  • Work experience at least 1 year (1560 hours total or 30 hours per week) full time or an equal amount of part time and must be paid work

Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program (AISP)

  • a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, or completed foreign credential and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from an agency approved by IRCC. [The report must show the foreign education is equal to a completed Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.] and, the ECA must be less than five years old at the time of the application.
  • Meet minimum language requirements
  • Work experience at least 1 year (1560 hours total or 30 hours per week) full time or an equal amount of part time and must be paid work

  • AHSP occupation must be at skill level O, A and B
  • AISP must be at skill level C
  • Applicants in the AISP stream can include work experience at skill level B acquired while working as a
  • registered nurse (NOC 3012)
  • registered psychiatric nurse (NOC 3012)
  • licensed practical nurse (NOC 3233)
  • For this to apply, the applicant must have a job offer as a
  • nurse’s aide (NOC 3413)
  • orderly (NOC 3413)
  • patient services associate (NOC 3413)
  • home support worker (NOC 4412)
